KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker representing Kathmandu-4 Gagan Thapa staged a sit-in at an office of Department of Roads (DoR) on Friday to protest delay in road construction.

Leader Thapa along with locals staged a sit-in at the DoR office in Chakupat as construction companies that were awarded contracts some nine years ago are yet to complete works.

Locals have agitated after the department is preparing to extend the contract period by two years. They have claimed that the construction companies have achieved progress of only 20 percent.

Leader Thapa said that they will resort to Singhadurbar-centric protest if their demands are not heeded.

Some 12 roads are under construction in the constituency. Shailung Construction Company has got a contract for most of the roads.
