CTEVT produces skilled workforce for the country: Koshi CM Karki

MORANG: Chief Minister (CM) Hikmat Kumar Karki of Koshi Province stated that the Council of Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) has been instrumental in producing the skilled workforce necessary for the country.

He emphasized that the training provided by CTEVT-affiliated institutes is vital for creating competent human resources, both domestically and internationally. Karki suggested that CTEVT diversify its training programs to better meet the needs of the workforce.

Karki made these remarks during a meeting of the high-level taskforce formed to restructure CTEVT.

The province-level interaction brought together diverse perspectives from various sectors.

He proposed that CTEVT should adopt a long-term vision of 50 years, promoting strong collaboration among the three tiers of government.

He also highlighted the potential for fostering religious tourism in the province by attracting visitors from neighboring regions, suggesting that CTEVT consider training young people to support this initiative.

During the meeting, Mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, Nagesh Koirala, advocated for better coordination with local governments in conducting training programs.

Dil Prasad Rai, the Koshi Province chief of the Nepal Municipality Association, and Mayor of Duhabi Municipality, Bed Narayan Gachchhadar, underscored the importance of linking technical education to industry needs.

Engineer Mohan Bhattarai, Member Secretary of CTEVT, noted that the expansion of education should align with industrial growth.

Dr. Rajendra Adhikari, Vice Chairman of the Province Planning Commission, stated that the time has come to decentralize CTEVT to better fit the country’s federal structure.

Coordinator of the CTEVT restructuring taskforce, Gita Paudel, informed participants that they are gathering suggestions for upgrading CTEVT training in the province.
