KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel is leaving for Baku City of Azerbaijan on November 10 (Sunday) to participate in the 29th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP-29).

President Paudel is leading a high-level Nepali delegation to Baku to attend the summit at the invitation of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Head of the State is scheduled to address the two-day ‘World Leaders Climate Action Summit’ of the high-level session to be held on November 12.

During the conference, Nepal will hold a separate high-level session under the leadership of President Paudel on November 13 to draw the world’s attention to its agenda.

A high-level meeting on ‘Addressing Climatic Loss and Damage in Mountainous Regions’ will also be held at the conference.

Nepal is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change in the world. In the conclave, Nepal will inform about the loss and damage caused by the erratic incidents of floods and landslides in Melamchi, Mustang, Kanchanpur, Thame, and Kathmandu Valley among others.

Nepal, as a party to UNFCCC, is preparing and implementing a National Adaptation Programme to be implemented by 2050. Preparations are being made at various levels to present the ‘agenda’ in the conference on behalf of Nepal. The COP29 will take place on November 11-22.

President Paudel is scheduled to return home on November 15 (Friday) after attending the conference.
