NEW DELHI: India’s Chandrayaan-2 has lowered its orbit around the Moon with just a few days to go for the D-Day when Vikram, the lander, will separate from the spacecraft.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) carried out a maneuver early today morning placing the Chandrayaan-2 into an elliptical orbit of about 200 km x 1,500 km around the Moon, Indian media reports have said on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Chandrayaan-2’s third lunar bound orbit maneuver was performed successfully and the orbit achieved is 179 km x 1412 km. Now the next lunar bound orbit maneuver is scheduled on August 30, 2019.
Chandrayaan-2 is less than 200 km away from the lunar surface. Likewise, Chandrayaan-2 will also perform two more similar maneuvers later this week to bring itself closer to the Moon. (Agencies)
