MFD forecasts light to moderate rainfall across Nepal



KATHMANDU: Light to moderate rain with partly to generally cloudy conditions has been forecast throughout the country for Monday due to the influence of the westerly low-pressure system.

The Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology stated that there is the possibility of light to moderate rain in most places of the country in the next three days with the shifting of the monsoon low-pressure trough slightly towards the south from its normal sphere.

Meteorologist at the Division, Ganga Nagarkoti said rain accompanied by thunder, high winds and lightning will likely occur as local weather system has also developed together with the monsoon. She said heavy rain can also occur for a short period during this time.

In its weather forecast bulletin for the next 24 hours, the Division has urged people to take precaution against lightning as there is the likelihood of occurrence of rain together with thunder and lightning. It has also urged the general public to remain cautious while traveling in the western region of the country for there is a possibility of heavy rain in one or two places of the region.

The Division said the weather will remain generally cloudy throughout the country tonight with the likelihood of light rain along with high winds and lightning in some places. Partly to generally cloudy condition has been predicted throughout the country on Tuesday with the occurrence of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in some places. There is also a likelihood of heavy rain in some places in the western region.

On Wednesday, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy across the country with the possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in most places.

The Division said the minimum temperature in Kathmandu Valley was 19.8 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature 29.8 degrees Celsius today.
