KATHMANDU: Traffic along the Manthali-Kathmandu route, which was operational just three days ago, has been severely disrupted since this morning due to the floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall on September 26 and 27.

The situation has worsened after a section of the road was washed away on the bank of the Tamakoshi River at Jamire, near Malukhola, in Melung Rural Municipality, Dolakha.

The disaster has halted vehicular movement, blocking cargo and passenger vehicles heading to Kathmandu from Ramechhap, Solu, and Okhaldhunga. The road leading from Manthali to Nepalthok-Kathmandu via Khurkot was damaged due to flood on Saturday.

A bridge at Khurkot was swept away by floodwaters, and another section of the road from Nepalthok to Bhakundebensi was washed away by the Roshi River.

An alternative route was established from Manthali through Charikot to Khadichour of Sindhupalchok, leading to Kathmandu. However, the blockage has left many vehicles stranded on both sides of the route. The District Police Office in Dolakha stated that efforts are underway to clear the blocked roads and restore traffic as soon as possible
