KATHMANDU: The PATA Nepal Chapter has appointed Prof Wolfgang Georg Arlt, as its Goodwill Ambassador for China and Expert Advisor to the association.

Prof Arlt is founder of the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute (COTRI).

In recognition of China’s significant outbound tourism potential for Nepal, the PATA Nepal Chapter Executive Committee, at its meeting on 18th September at the Hilton Kathmandu, awarded this honorary position to Prof Wolfgang, the PATA Nepal Chapter stated in a press release.

“We are thrilled to welcome Prof. Wolfgang as our Expert Advisor and Goodwill Ambassador for China. His wisdom, knowledge, extensive network, and decades long expertise will significantly contribute to Nepal’s tourism sector and play a pivotal role in advancing our tourism promotion and research initiatives,” said Khem Lakai, Chairman of PATA Nepal Chapter.

On his appointment, Prof Wolfgang said, “Nepal is a treasure chest of stunning natural beauty, diverse cultural attractions, and warm hospitality. It offers a unique experience for visitors from China and around the world. If I can contribute in some way to bringing more visitors to discover and fall in love with Nepal, I will be happy.”

Prof. Wolfgang’s first visit to China took place in the spring of 1978, prior to the implementation of the Reform and Opening policy that propelled the country to its current position as the world’s second-largest economy in less than 50 years.

As a tour operator, he initially brought German tourists to China and later focused on leading Chinese business delegations to Europe.

He then transitioned to academia, becoming a professor of International Tourism Management in Germany, China, the UK, and New Zealand. Prof. Wolfgang has visited China over 100 times and has organized numerous conferences, fairs, exhibitions, and other events related to China.
