Huge crowd throngs Dharahara after govt. opens it to public

KATHMANDU: Following the government’s decision of allowing the general public to visit Dharahara free of cost from today, a huge number of people gathered at the federal capital’s landmark.

The government has made arrangement to the general public to climb Dharahara free of charge from today, on the occasion of the Constitution Day, until the entry fee is fixed.

A huge number of people gathered at Dharahara in the first day after it is opened after nine years after its reconstruction, according to the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction.

Dharahara had collapsed in Gorkha earthquake in 2072 BS.

Chief of Central-Level Project Implementation Unit under the Department, Koshnath Adhikari said though arrangement was made to allow 600 people to climb Dharahara free of charge every day, around 2,500 people climbed Dharahara till afternoon.

There is still a long queue and huge crowd of people willing to climb Dharahara and people would be allowed to enter Dharahara till 3:30 pm and would be closed at 4:30 pm today, he added.

The arrangement of free entry is only for the time being and the entry fee would be fixed soon, shared Adhikari.

The National Reconstruction Authority had started reconstruction of Dharahara from September 30, 2018 and the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had inaugurated Dharahara on April 24, 2021.

The Central-Level Project Implementation Unit has also launched a website dharahara.com.gov.np to book a visit to Dharahara.
