NEPALGUNJ: Chairman of Maoist Center and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has argued that the position of party chairman is not something that can be simply handed over arbitrarily.

Speaking at a press conference organized in Nepalgunj today, Prachanda emphasized that the party is working on establishing a system to groom a successor leader.

“I don’t mean that I have to be in the leadership forever; it’s not necessary for me to be the Chairman,” Prachanda said.

“The chairmanship of the party is not something to be handed over through mere gestures. Instead, I am preparing a successor by creating a systematic and methodical approach.”

He acknowledged that while he does not wish to remain party Chairman indefinitely, he does not foresee a seamless transition of leadership or generational transfer upon his departure.

“At this point, I don’t want to be the Chairman of the party. For me, Prachanda is bigger than the Chairman,” he said.

“However, there is significant pressure from the working class, which feels that I cannot step away from the leadership at this time.”

Prachanda highlighted that a nationwide campaign is underway to strengthen the party, and based on consultations at state-level meetings, efforts are being made to unify and consolidate the party.

“Our party is united; claims of a potential split are baseless,” he asserted.
