China welcomes Nepal’s Transitional Justice Bill

KATHMANDU: Following the authentication of the Transitional Justice Bill by President Ram Chandra Paudel, China has expressed its support for the legislation.

The bill, officially known as the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act (Third Amendment) Bill, 2081 BS, was signed into law by President Paudel on Thursday under Article 113(2) of the Constitution of Nepal.

In a post on his social media platform, X, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, Chen Song, congratulated Nepal on the bill’s passage.

“Congrats on the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act (Third Amendment) Bill, 2081 BS, certified by the Rt. Hon’ble Mr. Ram Chandra Paudel, President of Nepal. It marks a historic milestone in the peaceful process of Nepal based on all parties’ consensus. It’s time for all stakeholders to go ahead and embrace a brighter future for Nepal,” Ambassador Song wrote.

Earlier, ten other nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Japan, Finland, the European Union, Germany, and France, issued a joint statement welcoming the bill and pledging their support for its implementation.
