Rain possible in some parts of Nepal next week: Meteorologist

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public not to panic over reports circulating on social media about a week-long spell of rainfall, saying rain is possible in some parts of the country from next Tuesday, but its extent and duration remain uncertain.

Meteorologist Rajan Maharjan of the Weather Forecasting Division said the weather system was changeable and it was too early to determine exactly where rainfall would occur, how much rain could fall and how long it would last.

He said farmers had been particularly concerned by social media reports claiming that rainfall would continue for an entire week.

“There is a possibility of rain from next Tuesday. However, it is not yet certain where it will rain, how much rainfall there will be or how long it will continue,” Maharjan said, urging the public not to believe unverified reports or become unnecessarily alarmed.

According to Maharjan, weather forecasts for Nepal are generally more reliable over a period of around three days, while predictions for an entire week remain less certain.

He said the department would provide more detailed information about the likelihood of rainfall in the coming week in the next few days.

Maharjan also urged the public, particularly farmers concerned about the potential impact on agricultural activities, to rely on official weather bulletins issued by the department rather than unverified claims circulating on social media.
