Minister Paudel pledges to raise health insurance coverage to Rs 500,000

MORANG: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has announced plans to increase health insurance coverage to Rs 500,000.

This pledge was made during a ceremony marking the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Koshi Hospital Biratnagar and Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital.

In his address, Minister Paudel committed to allocating Rs 31 billion to enhance the insurance coverage.

The agreement stipulates that Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital will extend its oncology services to Koshi Hospital.

“Healthcare must be accessible, free, and of high quality,” Minister Paudel emphasized, underscoring the government’s commitment to citizen health.

He also directed Koshi Hospital’s management to adhere to the standards and policies set by the Ministry, expressing concern over reports of mismanagement.

Ministry Secretary Dr. Roshan Pokhrel urged the hospital management to aim for self-sufficiency rather than relying solely on government support.

The MoU, signed by Cancer Hospital’s Director Ujjwal Chalise and Koshi Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr. Rabin Raj Singh, outlines that Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital will begin providing oncology services within a month with a team of six to ten specialists.

Koshi Hospital has been offering cancer care services since 2072 BS.
