Doramba landslide: Death toll reaches 8

RAMECHHAP: The death toll from the landslide at Doramba Shailung rural municipality-3 in Ramechhap district has climbed to eight.

Of the 11 people that were missing after a landslide on August 25 swept away four houses, the eight dead bodies have been recovered so far, according to District Police Office, Chief Pradeep Kumar Singh.

The rain-triggered landslide at Lekharka on last Saturday midnight resulted in 10 people being reported missing at first.

One of the missing people was rescued alive and six dead bodies were recovered the same day.

Two dead bodies were found recently, taking the death toll to eight, police said. Search effort has been underway for two missing people-Kale Pahari, 55, and Jhyaipuri Pahari, 50, of the same ward.

The retrieved dead bodies belonging to Chandika Shrestha,30, her 18-month-old son Ayush Shrestha, Urmila Pahari, 57, Sandip Pahari, 30, Santosh Pahari, Bigyan Pahari,14, had been handed over to their respective families on last Sunday itself after conducting post-mortem, informed Kaushal Neupane, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Ramechhap.
