KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, currently on an official visit to India since August 18, has called on academics from South Asia to collaborate on addressing climate change issues.

During a meeting with South Asian University (SAU) President, Professor KK Aggarwal, in New Delhi today, Minister Deuba urged researchers and academicians in the region to explore common challenges and propose solutions for climate change.

“The South Asia region faces many shared challenges. We expect university researchers and academicians to identify these issues and help find solutions,” she said.

In the meeting, Professor Aggarwal briefed the Minister on the University’s affairs and proposed the establishment of a constituent college of the University in Nepal.

The University, established by the eight member nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), is an international institution, with foreign ministers from SAARC countries serving as its ex-officio chancellors.

While in New Delhi, Minister Deuba also had a courtesy meeting with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and held bilateral talks with her Indian counterpart, S. Jaishankar.

Additionally, Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale, Chief of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), also called on the Minister. She is scheduled to return to Nepal later today.
