Landslides block Karnali Highway

JUMLA: The Karnali Highway has been blocked due to incessant rain.

Bir Bahadur JT, Information Officer at the Road Division Office in Jumla, reported that the highway has been completely obstructed since Wednesday morning due to landslides along the Surkhet-Jumla road section.

Efforts are underway to clear the road, which was impacted by floods and landslides.

JT stated that work is being carried out to restore the road as quickly as possible.

The heavy rain has led to frequent landslides in areas such as Dahikhola, Gagnekhola, Ismode, and Hulme within the Kalikot section of the Karnali Highway.

For years, residents of Karnali have endured difficulties due to inadequate attention from authorities regarding road upgrades in these hazardous locations.

As a result of the road closure, hundreds of passengers have been stranded, with vehicles traveling from Jumla and Mugu to Surkhet, Nepalganj, and Kathmandu halted along the route.
