Chairman Dahal urges maximum efforts in rescue operations for Solukhumbu flood victims

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has called on the government to spare no efforts in the rescue and relief operations for those affected by the recent flood in Thame village, Solukhumbu district.

In a social media post this afternoon, Chairman Dahal highlighted the devastating impact of the flood, which was triggered by the bursting of a glacial lake in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5.

He emphasized the significant loss of lives and property and the ongoing risk to those living in the region.

Dahal urged the global community to significantly increase international assistance to help Nepal combat the risks associated with climate change.

He also appealed to the Nepali government to intensify rescue and relief efforts for the flood victims.

Expressing concern over the growing threats faced by people in mountainous regions due to climate change, Dahal pointed out the alarming rate of glacier melt and the frequent bursting of glacial lakes.

He lamented that countries like Nepal are suffering the consequences of actions they did not cause, stating, “Glaciers continue to melt, and glacial lakes are bursting, leading to devastating natural disasters such as floods and landslides, which are causing immense loss of lives and property in vulnerable areas.”

Dahal also mentioned that he has consistently raised the issue of climate justice on various international platforms, including the United Nations General Assembly and COP-28.
