KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal has stated that the agreement reached among political parties to conclude the peace process is an opportunity to create history.

During deliberations on the bill to amend the Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act (third amendment) – 2079 BS in the House of Representatives today, Nepal emphasized that the peace process is nearing completion and should not be delayed any further.

“The peace process is on the verge of conclusion; let’s not delay it any longer. The state’s investment in the past has gone to waste,” the former Prime Minister said, stressing that the survivor communities have been waiting for justice for a long time.

He insisted that those responsible for heinous crimes must be punished, but there should be no sense of revenge over past incidents.

He expressed hope that the House would pass the bill today, marking a historic moment.

Nepal emphasized that transitional justice should be a concern for all political parties, not just a select few, and highlighted the need for broader cooperation to conclude all matters related to transitional justice.

He affirmed his party’s full commitment to this cause and noted his significant role in implementing the peace process in the country.
