Four cases of Cholera confirmed in Lalitpur

KATHMANDU: A cholera outbreak has been confirmed in four individuals in Lalitpur district.

The National Public Health Laboratory detected the cholera virus in tests, according to Dr. Mukesh Poudel of the Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases Control Division of the Department of Health Services.

All four cases were reported from a correction center in Godawari Municipality-14, Lalitpur.

Of the affected individuals, two have fled the hospital, one is being treated at Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, and another at the Patan Academy of Health Sciences.

The youths exhibited symptoms of diarrhea before being diagnosed with cholera.

Dr. Poudel noted that the correction center had a contaminated well, which was the source of the outbreak.

“The well water was polluted with fecal matter, leading to the spread of cholera,” he explained.

He also mentioned that the risk of the fleeing patients spreading cholera to others is low, as they had received preliminary treatment for the disease.
