Baseless accusations have no place in Parliament: PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli reiterated the necessity for industries to pay for the electricity they consume during a question-and-answer session with MPs at the House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday.

PM Oli emphasized the importance of industries settling their electricity tariffs, stating, “Yesterday, I mentioned that one will need to pay for the electricity one has consumed.”

He further emphasized, “We are here not to play games or indulge in slander but to work for the nation and its people.”

PM Oli also underscored the importance of upholding the government’s reputation, asserting, “I am not impatient or acting on impulse. Everyone must be accountable for baseless accusations. The dignity of this House must be upheld. Falsehoods have no place here. This chamber should not be turned into a hub of noise.”

By saying so, Prime Minister Oli defended the government’s stance regarding industries whose power supply has been disconnected due to a tariff dispute.

He also emphasized that while the government will collect arrears for electricity used by industries, those industries not utilizing electricity must still pay their tariff dues.

“I believe in transparency and integrity. Throughout my six decades of service to the nation and its people, I have upheld these principles,” he stated. “I remain committed to serving with honesty and dedication.”

Earlier, a lawmaker from the Maoist Center had questioned PM Oli’s directive to immediately provide electricity connections to industries neglecting tariff payments.

Regarding political differences, Prime Minister Oli acknowledged that it’s natural for some not to support him as the Prime Minister.

He urged members to maintain a decorous atmosphere in the House, avoiding impulsive accusations and focusing on constructive political discourse.
