We will strive to meet indigenous demands: NC President Deuba

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba emphasized the importance of unity among all ethnicities and linguistic groups, asserting that only a strong nation can ensure the protection of everyone’s rights.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the First National Convention of the Nepal Democratic Indigenous Nationalities Federation, the NC President stressed that only through unity can all communities contribute effectively to the country.

Deuba recalled his long-standing efforts to protect the rights of indigenous nationalities, including the establishment of structures like the National Foundation for the Development of Indigenous Nationalities during his tenure as Prime Minister.

He expressed confidence that everyone would support the protection of the rights, languages, and cultures of indigenous peoples.

Deuba committed that his party would take the initiative to fulfill the demands of indigenous communities.

The recent Mahasamiti meeting of the Nepali Congress had set a deadline of June 29 for all affiliated organizations to complete their conventions.

The Federation became the first affiliate to hold its convention within the stipulated period.

None of the other affiliated organizations have prepared to hold their conventions by the deadline set by the Mahasamiti meeting.

This is the first convention since the transformation of the Indigenous Nationalities Federation into a unified body.

The Federation’s General Secretary Jagat Baram stated that all 59 indigenous nationalities’ associations are represented in the Federation.
