KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has unveiled a budget of RS 25.63 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2081/82.
Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol presented this budget at the third meeting of the 15th session of the Municipal Assembly held on Monday.
In the budget, Dangol allocated Rs 3.80 billion to 11 metropolitan pride projects.
The budget for the upcoming fiscal year is Rs 170 million more than the current year. The metropolis expects to collect Rs 24.20 billion from its consolidated fund and Rs 1.50 billion from land consolidation projects.
Among the expenses from the local consolidated fund, Rs 190 million has been allocated for economic development programs, which is 0.79 percent of the total budget.
Deputy Mayor Dangol has allocated Rs 3.49 billion for office operations and administrative areas, representing 14.44 percent of the total budget.
For infrastructure development, Rs 14.81 billion has been allocated, making up 61.20 percent of the total budget.
The city has earmarked Rs 3.81 billion for the social sector, which is 15.75 percent of the total budget.
For governance and interrelated areas, Rs 1.89 billion has been allocated, accounting for 7.82 percent of the total budget.
The metropolis anticipates an income of Rs 24.20 billion in its consolidated fund.
This includes an estimated Rs of 19.15 billion from internal sources.
Conditional grants from the federal government are expected to be Rs 1.45 billion, with an additional Rs 447 million from the provincial government.
It is estimated that Rs 1.99 billion will come from federal revenue sharing, Rs 550 million from provincial revenue sharing, Rs 105 million from local revenue sharing, Rs 800 million from equalization grants, Rs 100 million from provincial government equalization grants, and Rs 80 million from internal public participation.
In presenting the budget, Deputy Mayor Dangol emphasized the plan to mobilize maximum local resources and assets.
She also highlighted poverty alleviation as a key focus of the budget.
