KATHMANDU: The National Examination Board (NEB) is set to announce the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE 2080) by the last week of June.

Starting this year, the results will be publicized under the Letter Grading Guideline of 2078, which distinguishes between theoretical and internal assessments.

According to the guidelines, students must achieve a minimum of 35 percent marks in each subject in theory, equating to at least 26.25 marks out of 75.

Additionally, a minimum of 40 percent or 10 marks is required in the internal assessment out of 25 marks.

The grading will convert these marks into letter grades.

Students failing to secure 35 percent (26.25 marks) in the theoretical exams will receive an ‘NG’ (Non Graded) designation on their certificate.

They will need to pass a grade enhancement test to proceed to Class 11.

Furthermore, students failing to meet the 10 marks requirement in the internal assessment or the 26.25 marks in theory will not receive their original certificates.

They can, however, attempt grade enhancement exams in up to two subjects.

Candidates failing to secure the minimum 35 percent marks in more than two subjects, even after grade enhancement, will be required to reappear for all subjects next year.

Under the previous grading system, the combined marks from theoretical and practical exams determined grades up to ‘E’.

The government, responding to concerns about declining learning quality under the grading system, formed a working group to review school education grading.

As per their recommendations, a minimum of 35 percent marks per subject is now mandatory for passing at the school level.
