Prime Minister Dahal returns after two-day visit to India
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has returned to Nepal on Monday evening, concluding his two-day official visit to India. Prime Minister Dahal traveled to New Delhi on Sunday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi. Upon his arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Prime Minister Dahal was welcomed by Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, Deputy Prime Ministers, ministers, lawmakers, high-ranking government officials, and heads of security agencies.
Gandaki CM Pandey wins vote of confidence
Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Surendra Raj Pandey, has received a vote of confidence of the provincial assembly. The proposal seeking a vote of confidence tabled by Chief Minister Pandey in today’s meeting of the Gandaki Province Assembly was passed with majority. A total of 31 votes were cast in favor of the proposal while 28 against it.
Sudurpaschim govt expansion: Ministers sworn-in
The Chief of Sudurpaschim Province, Najir Miya, on Monday expanded the cabinet in the province on the recommendation of Chief Minister Dirgha Bahadur Sodari. Accordingly, Surendra Bahadur Pal is named as the Minister for Economic Affairs, while Om Bikram Bhat is the Social Development Minister in the appointment and portfolio division carried out as per Article 168 (9) of the Constitution. Likewise, Akkal Bahadur Rawal, Bir Bahadur Thapa, Laxmi BK, Maya Pant and Hira Sarki were appointed as the minister without portfolios.
Nepalis spend Rs 104 billion on overseas education in 10 months, Rs 52 billion on travel
Nepali students going abroad for education have spent over Rs 104 billion in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. According to the report on the current economic and financial situation released by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Monday, students took Rs 104 billion out of the country for education in the first 10 months of this fiscal year. This amount is Rs 29 billion more than the same period last year.
Maoist Center to take action against NSP lawmaker Devkota for ‘floor crossing’ in Gandaki
The CPN-Maoist Center is set to take disciplinary action against Nepal Samajbadi Party (NSP) lawmaker Phanindra Devkota for ‘floor crossing’ and voting in favor of Gandaki province Chief Minister Surendra Pandey. Maoist Center’s Gandaki Parliamentary Party leader Hari Bahadur Chuman stated that action was initiated after Devkota defied the party whip and voted for Pandey, who is also the parliamentary leader of the Nepali Congress. Devkota was elected in 2022 under the Maoist Center symbol, making him a member of the Maoist parliamentary party.
Durga Prasai’s B&C Medical College gets KU’s affiliation
B&C Medical College, owned by businessman Durga Prasai and located in Birtamod, Jhapa, has received affiliation from Kathmandu University. As per a letter from the Executive Council meeting of Kathmandu University held on Monday, B&C Medical College will be officially named B&C Medical College Teaching Hospital and Research Center. Kathmandu University granted the affiliation following a directive order from the Supreme Court.
SC orders additional documents against Home Minister Lamichhane
The Supreme Court has ordered the submission of additional documents in the case against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane. A division bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Til Prasad Shrestha directed to provide details to the Court in the cooperatives-related case. The bench instructed to retrieve documents, including the complaint registration book related to the cooperative fraud case at the Kaski District Police Office, the charge sheet filed at Kaski Police, and the charge sheet registered by the Rupandehi District Attorney’s Office.
Seven former Land Revenue officials of Parsa convicted of corruption
The Special Court has convicted seven former officials of the Parsa Land Revenue Office on charges of corruption. In a verdict delivered on Monday, the Special Court found the officials guilty in a case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on November 6, 2023. The convicted officials are former Land Revenue Officers Harinarayan Mishra, Bhup Bahadur Bogati, Gopal Dhungana, Padam Prasad Aryal, Chandra Bahadur Bhandari, Kiran Prasad Upadhyay, and Computer Officer Kumod Bhandari.
Century Bank’s former Chair Rajesh Shrestha and seven others arrested on irregularities allegations
Former Chairman of Century Commercial Bank, Rajesh Shrestha, along with seven others, has been arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on charges of irregularities in loan disbursement. Previously, the CIB had also arrested former CEOs Tulsiram Gautam and Manoj Neupane, among ten others, in connection with this case.
Monsoon makes its way into Nepal, marks onset of rainy season
The monsoon, heralding the onset of the rainy season, has made its way into Nepal today (June 10). The Weather Forecasting Division released an announcement today, indicating that the monsoon has commenced in Nepal’s Koshi province. Traditionally, the monsoon enters Nepal from its eastern periphery, with June 13 being the earliest anticipated date.
Sandeep Lamichhane reaches West Indies to play ICC T20 World Cup
Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane reached the West Indies to participate in the ICC T-20 World Cup. Lamichhane expressed his excitement on social media, stating that his dream of playing in the World Cup in the West Indies has finally come true. He extended his gratitude to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) President Chatur Bahadur Chand, Secretary Paras Khadka, Lawyer Saroj Krishna Ghimire, and Manager Binod Das for their continuous efforts, enabling him to participate in the upcoming matches in the West Indies.
