KATHMANDU: A meeting of the task force formed to prepare the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the parliamentary investigation committee was held on Friday morning but ended without reaching any agreements between the ruling and opposition parties.

Despite the lack of agreement, the meeting ended on a positive note, according to Mahesh Bartaula, Chief Whip of CPN-UML.

Bartaula noted that the meeting was postponed for further discussion after the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), proposed new terms for the agreement.

“NC, which has been insisting on including the name of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in the TOR, has proposed to include the names of cooperatives where Home Minister Lamichhane is suspected to be involved,” said Bartaula.

“We will discuss the matter with Home Minister Lamichhane and will sit for a meeting again,” he added.

Earlier, the government and the opposition had agreed to form a probe committee and established a task force to prepare the TOR.

However, the task force has not yet reached a conclusion due to disagreements over jurisdiction.

The task force is led by Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Padam Giri and includes lawmakers Shishir Khanal from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Jeevan Pariyar from Nepali Congress, and Mahesh Bartaula from CPN-UML.
