KATHMANDU: Today’s meeting of the House of Representatives has been postponed after political parties failed to forge consensus over the issue of removing obstacles taking place at the HoR for the past few days.

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara had called an all-party meeting at Parliament Building, New Baneshwor, today regarding removing obstacles. The consensus was not forged after ruling parties and opposition parties did not budge from their stance over Sarlahi incident.

Saying further discussion was necessary to forge consensus, the parties said that the HoR meet has been put off till August 5.

After the meeting, Parliamentary Party Deputy-leader of the Nepal Communist Party, Subas Nembang, said that the HoR meeting has been postponed till Monday at a consensus as the further discussion was necessary to forge consensus over the Sarlahi issue.

Similarly, Whip of the Nepali Congress, Pushpa Bhusal, said that they have demanded to form parliamentary probe committee over Sarlahi incident and all political parties needed further discussion in the party.

Likewise, Chairperson of the federal council of Socialist Party Nepal, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, said that he suggested that both issues– forming a parliamentary probe committee regarding Sarlahi incident and unveiling report of Lal Commission would be democratic.

District In-charge of Biplav-led group, Kumar Poudel, was shot dead during an exchange of fire between the police and group in Sarlahi on June 20. Similarly, a person died in a clash between locals and police in the course of a demonstration over the issue of death of Amit Ray, 12.

Amit died after falling into a ditch constructed in course of extracting sand in Sarlahi district. The main opposition party, as well as other opposition parties, have been obstructing House for the past few days demanding the formation of parliamentary probe committee on both issues.
