Parties fail to reach agreement on parliamentary obstruction, NC insists on investigation against Rabi

KATHMANDU: A crucial meeting of key leaders, convened by Speaker Devraj Ghimire, has ended without reaching an agreement to lift the obstruction of parliamentary sessions.

Nepali Congress (NC), persisting with its demand for a parliamentary committee to investigate allegations of cooperative fraud against Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, remains steadfast in its stance.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been striving to broker consensus among the parties regarding the cooperative fraud investigation, foreseeing potential disruptions from the Nepali Congress during the upcoming budget session.

Ramesh Lekhak emphasizes that parliamentary proceedings can proceed smoothly if a committee is established to probe Home Minister Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in the cooperative fraud case.

Today’s meeting saw the participation of Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden, among other leaders.

The government has scheduled the budget session to commence on May 10.
