BANKE: The number of tigers at the Banke National Park (BNP) has increased significantly in the last five years.
In 2013, the BNP had only four tigers. Shyam Bajimaya, former director general of Wildlife Conservation Forum, currently the population of tigers has reached 235 in Nepal.
Around 100 people visited the park in the last fiscal year, according to Bishnu Prasad Thapaliya, conservation officer at the BNP.
Meanwhile a total of 54 cases — 17 registered in the park office and 37 in the court — relating with the wildlife poaching, smuggling, and other cases.
The park was established in 2067 as the country’s tenth national park that spreads over an area of 550 square kilometers covering an area of 30 kilometers of Ratna Highway and 72 kilometers of East-West Highway.
