High Court hearing cricketer Sandeep’s appeal today

KATHMANDU: The Patan High Court is hearing the appeal filed by Sandeep Lamichhane, former captain of the Nepali national cricket team, against the decision of the Kathmandu District Court.

Last Monday, the scheduled cases in the bench of Patan High Court judges Sudarsan Dev Bhatta and Purushottam Prasad Dhakal were postponed, with the hearing now set for today.

Previously, Justices Munendra Prasad Awasthi and Durga Prasad Dhungel ordered the withdrawal of a petition filed by the victim Gaushala 26 in Ward No. 2 of Tadi Rural Municipality to correct a birth register’s date of birth, seeking clearer documents related to the matter.

Lamichhane, convicted by the Kathmandu District Court for coercion, had lodged an appeal in the High Court of Patan, opposing the Government of Nepal’s decision.

The Kathmandu District Court had found Gaushala 26 to be a victim of coercion, sentencing Sandeep to eight years in prison, a fine of three lakhs, and additional compensation of two lakhs.

Both cases are being heard simultaneously, with Gaushala 26 declared a juvenile by the Kathmandu District Court.
