MAHOTTARI: A wild elephant was found dead inside the forest in Mahottari on Tuesday. The male elephant was found dead at the Sagarnath Forest Development Project area in Laxminiya of Gaushala municipality.

Earlier, on Sunday, Parsa National Park officials had installed a GPS radio collar in the elephant to read its activities in the Srinagar forest area. People who had gone to the forest to collect firewood and green fodder found the elephant dead this morning.

An investigation has been launched to find the reason behind the death of the elephant, according to Chief of Division Forest Office, Jaleswar, Hemant Prakash Shah. Locals had earlier reported to the officials about the elephant causing damage to crops and vegetation in the area.
