15 killed as Pakistan military aircraft crashes in Rawalpindi



ISLAMABAD: At least 15 people including five crew members were killed after a small military aircraft crashed into a residential area in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi, Pakistani authorities said.

According to Farooq Butt, rescue spokesman, 12 people sustained injuries in the accident. The crash resulted in a large fire which engulfed several houses.

Rawalpindi, near the capital Islamabad, is the site of the army’s headquarters.

The cause behind the plane crash is yet to ascertained.

The residential area where the incident occurred had been cordoned off by military personnel and rescue workers, according to news agency AFP.
