DDA issues warning against operating online pharmacies

KATHMANDU: The Department of Drug Administration (DDA) has issued a stern directive prohibiting the operation of online pharmacies.

Narayan Prasad Dhakal, Director General of the Department, stated that the directive was issued following the discovery of online pharmacies engaging in the sale of medicines through deceptive and misleading advertising practices.

According to Dhakal, no online pharmacies have been granted permits by the Department to operate thus far.

He highlighted that medicines were being unlawfully sold, often with discounts, under the guise of online pharmacies via various social networking platforms.

He further elaborated that deceptive marketing strategies were being employed under the guise of online pharmacies.

Under Clause 19 of the Drugs Act-2034 BS, it is explicitly stated that false and misleading advertising of medicines is strictly prohibited.
