Ramesh Kharel resigns from Rastriya Swatantra Party
Former DIG Ramesh Kharel has tendered his resignation from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) following a clarification sought by the party. Kharel’s resignation from the party is effective from Wednesday. In the by-election held on April 23, Kharel had contested as an RSP candidate for the Bara-2 constituency. He was defeated by Janata Samajbadi Party Chairman Upendra Yadav.
Unified Socialist nominates Rai and Singh as candidates for by-elections
CPN (Unified Socialist) has finalized its candidates for the forthcoming by-elections in Ilam-2 and Bhajang-1, marking a significant step in their electoral preparations. The party has selected Jeet Bahadur Rai as its candidate for Ilam-2 and Dil Bahadur Singh for Bhajang-1, as confirmed by a prominent party leader. Jeet Bahadur Rai had previously served as the Chairman of Maijogmai Rural Municipality after his election in 2074.
Maoist Center to contest in Ilam and Bhajang by-elections
The CPN-Maoist Center has made the decision to participate in the forthcoming by-elections in Ilam and Bhajang, scheduled for April 27. During a meeting of office bearers, the party resolved to nominate candidates for both the Illam-2 and Bhajang-1 constituencies. However, the final selection of candidates is yet to be determined. Harka Bahadur Nembang, Chairman of the party for Koshi Province, disclosed that the names recommended for candidacy include Direndra Sharma Timalsina, Urmila Tamang, Om Bahadur Gurung, and Kumar Baraili.
NEPSE witnesses double-digit decline on Wednesday
Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) witnessed a double-digit decline on Wednesday, marking the third trading day of the week. NEPSE reached 2030.86 points after dropping by 10.83 points today. A total of 6,047,021 shares of 44,259 companies were traded, amounting to Rs. 2,235,485,534 in transactions.
Police Chief Kunwar: No evidence of Home Minister Lamichhane’s involvement in cooperative fraud
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar has clarified that the police have not found any evidence implicating Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in the cooperative fraud case. Speaking at a meeting of the state affairs and good governance committee under the House of Representatives (HoR), IGP Kunwar stated that despite receiving complaints, no incriminating evidence linking Lamichhane to the case has been uncovered thus far.
Gold traded at Rs 126,800 per tola today
The price of gold increased by Rs 400 per tola in the Nepali gold market today. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 126,800 per tola and standard gold is traded at Rs 126,200 per tola.
