High Court rejects interim order against Itahari’s directives for same uniform in all schools

BIRATNAGAR: The High Court Biratnagar has declined to issue an interim order against the decision of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City directing all schools within its jurisdiction to enforce a uniform dress code.

With this decision, Itahari’s directive to implement uniform attire across all schools in the sub-metropolis will proceed as planned.

On February 8, the Education Committee of Itahari mandated all schools in the sub-metropolitan area to require students to wear traditional Bhadgaule topi along with a uniform.

Furthermore, private schools were instructed not to sell educational materials and were prohibited from charging admission fees more than once.

The Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization Nepal (PABSON) had lodged a writ petition against Itahari’s decision.

On Wednesday, the bench of Judges Bipul Neupane and Kripasur Karki at the High Court rejected PABSON’s plea for an interim order against Itahari’s decision.

The court justified its decision by citing the exclusive authority granted to local authorities by the constitution and considering education up to the secondary level as a local matter.
