KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha today said that the process of compensating and providing insurance to the families of Nepalis who lost their lives serving in the Russian army has started.
Responding to inquiries during a session of the House of Representatives, he affirmed the government’s efforts to repatriate Nepali citizens currently serving in the Russian military.
Shrestha disclosed that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed willingness, in principle, to aid those seeking repatriation by terminating their contracts.
However, the specifics of this assistance are still under consideration.
The Nepali Embassy in Moscow is pursuing this matter, including the release of photographs of Nepali soldiers held captive in Ukraine, with efforts underway to facilitate their return to Nepal.
In addressing the situation of Nepali nationals serving in the Russian army and those detained in Ukraine due to recruitment by the Russian military, the government is resolutely committed to resolving the issue comprehensively, he added.
