DRI launches investigation into recovery of 16 kg gold

KATHMANDU: The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) has launched probe into the recovery of 16 kilograms gold bars from a forest at Dharche Rural Municipality-3 in Gorkha district.

On July 25, a police team from the Machakhola Police Post found the unattended gold bars in the forest acting on a tip-off from Dhankamal Gurung arrested on the charge of gold smuggling.

A team from the district police office, Gorkha arrested Gurung of Dharche Rural Municipality-1. He confessed to the police that he smuggled the gold from Tibet.

“The court has extended the remand of Gurung by five days. We will file a case at the court after investigations are over,” said director-general of the department, Dirgharaj Mainali.
