KATHMANDU: Allie Pepper, an accomplished Australian mountaineer, has announced her ambitious plan to summit Mt. Annapurna without the aid of supplemental oxygen during the upcoming spring season.
At a press conference held in Kathmandu, Allie revealed her intention to conquer Mt. Annapurna I without oxygen support, as part of her broader goal to summit all 14 eight-thousanders without supplemental oxygen by 2026.
To facilitate her expedition, Allie has selected Seven Summit Travels as her support team.
Allie embarked on her quest to summit mountains without oxygen in 2007, starting with Mt. Cho Oyu. Since then, the 48-year-old Sydney-based mountaineer has achieved successful ascents of two of the 14 eight-thousanders without supplemental oxygen.
Notably, Allie reached the summit of Broad Peak (8,052m), the 12th highest mountain, on July 15, 2023, followed by a successful ascent of Manaslu (8,163m), the fifth highest mountain, on September 28, 2023.
Her achievement on Broad Peak marked her as the first Australian woman to conquer the peak without supplemental oxygen.
