Maoist Center to contest upcoming elections independently

KATHMANDU:  Following the Nepali Congress’s decision not to form a pre-electoral alliance, the Maoist Center, too, has asserted its readiness to contest the upcoming elections independently.

The proposal by NC General Secretary Gagan Thapa advocating against an alliance, which garnered approval in the NC Mahasamiti meeting, has fueled skepticism within the ruling coalition.

Maoist Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota emphasized that the Maoist Center’s decision to go solo was made during the party’s recent Central Committee meeting.

Dismissing the significance of the NC’s current stance, he stated, “There are still four years left for the election; the current decision of the NC has no meaning. It is not important to continue the alliance. We did not take it seriously.”

Sapkota affirmed, “We have already decided that the party will fight alone. The Maoists will go to the upcoming elections with their views and agenda.”

Despite asserting their readiness to go solo, Sapkota clarified that there is no current issue with the ruling alliance, and the Maoist Center has decided to maintain the alliance.

He attributed the enthusiasm generated within the party during the recent four-month campaign, expressing confidence that the upcoming campaign would restore the party to its former state.

Notably, leaders at the statute conference also advocated for independent participation in the upcoming elections.

NC leader Min Bahadur Bishwakarma, highlighted that even though General Secretary Thapa’s proposal passed in the NC Mahasamiti meeting, the ultimate decision on forming an electoral alliance rests with the Central Committee meeting.

Propagating a commitment to honesty in pre-election alliances, BK emphasized the party’s position against forming alliances itself.

He stated, “We are advocating for transparency, acknowledging that we should refrain from entering into alliances.”

He affirmed his dedication to sincerity in alliance matters, challenging the perception that such a stance equates to avoiding alliances altogether.
