Third International Tripitaka Chanting Ceremony scheduled for March in Lumbini

KATHMANDU: The All Nepal Bhikkhu Association is set to organize the Third International Tripitaka Chanting Ceremony in Lumbini from March 2 to 5.

The ceremony will take place in and around the Mayadevi Temple, where the Tripitaka, Buddhism’s primary religious text, will be recited, with prayers for world peace and human welfare.

Bhikkhu Pancha Murti Mahasthavir, the treasurer of the Organizing Committee, mentioned that the event aims to inform the international community about the significance of Lumbini as a Buddhist pilgrimage site, as well as highlight Buddhist education, literature, and philosophy associated with the Tripitaka.

Additionally, the ceremony will provide an opportunity to promote spiritual tourism in Lumbini.

The chanting ceremony will involve the recitation of the three sub-texts of the Tripitaka – the Vinaya Pitaka, the Sutra Pitaka, and the Abhidharma Pitaka.

Bhikkhus, Buddhist priests, and followers from various Asian nations, including Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Korea, and Japan, among others, will participate in the event.

As part of the ceremony, a peace march will be organized, allowing the general public to participate.

The Tripitaka serves as the primary religious scripture of Buddhism, encompassing the teachings of Buddha and being embraced by followers of various Buddhist sects, including Hinayana and Mahayana.
