PM Dahal urges strategies to retain students and foster national development



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has emphasized the crucial need to implement comprehensive measures aimed at retaining students within the country for education and employment opportunities.

Addressing the 12th general assembly of the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), PM Dahal highlighted the importance of introducing initiatives to create job prospects and attract students to stay and study within the nation.

Expressing his satisfaction with the increased enrollment of students in agriculture science, PM Dahal underscored the pivotal role the AFU should play in the development of agriculture and forestry sectors.

He stressed that achieving targets in production and productivity would require collaboration from university teachers, agriculture scientists, students, and technicians.

PM Dahal urged the adoption of effective measures to attract youths to agriculture, emphasizing its role in boosting productivity.

The Prime Minister expressed his vision for the AFU to play a significant role in technology production through enhanced education, research, and extension systems.

While acknowledging challenges in the country’s agriculture education and research system, PM Dahal commended the AFU’s potential in contributing to the development of agriculture and forestry.

PM Dahal applauded the establishment and operation of eight agriculture faculties, colleges, and two agriculture science centers in different provinces.

He suggested the implementation of educational programs in approved colleges in Syangja and Gorkha.

The Prime Minister highlighted the university’s critical role in increasing production, productivity, promoting exports, and reducing national losses.

He urged the AFU to provide evidence-based policy recommendations to improve economic conditions and employment through scientific forestry management.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining higher quality in teaching and research, PM Dahal called for a constructive campaign for the sustainable operation of the university.

Established in Nepal in 2067 BS, the AFU addresses the need for a technical university dedicated to education and research in agriculture, livestock, veterinary, fishery, and forestry sectors.
