Deadline begins for shipbuilding applicants to apply for ESP exams amid Korean government’s ongoing silence

KATHMANDU: Applicants who previously applied to work in the Korean shipbuilding sector now have until January 3 to submit forms for upcoming manufacturing sector exams. However, uncertainty prevails as the Korean government remains silent on the matter.

Earlier, on December 5, the ESP Section had announced that only one examiner could participate in exams for a single sector, leading to conflict among students who had previously applied for different sectors but were not selected.

This triggered protests, leading the ESP Section to permit only 18 shipbuilding applicants to fill out forms for manufacturing sector exams. Tragically, a fatal clash between students and police ensued, resulting in two casualties.

In response, the Patan High Court ordered the inclusion of all shipbuilding applicants in the upcoming ESP Korean language exams for the manufacturing sector.

Despite the court’s decision, uncertainty lingers as the Human Resource Development Service of Korea has not responded to the order. An ESP Section official stated, “The HRD Service of Korea was informed about the court order shortly after the high court decisions, but no response has been received yet.”

With the HRDC of Korea maintaining silence, even if the ESP Korea Section allows applicants to submit forms, the fate of their exams and selections remains uncertain.
