KATHMANDU: Chaos erupted at Balkumari in Lalitpur on Friday as a protester, wounded by a police gunshot during clashes, tragically lost his life.
The incident unfolded in the aftermath of agitating EPS students setting ablaze a vehicle belonging to Physical Infrastructure Minister Prakash Jawala, prompting the deployment of security personnel.
The deceased individual passed away while undergoing treatment at Kist Hospital. To regain control of the situation, the police resorted to firing tear gas and live rounds in Balkumari.
In addition to the fatality, law enforcement authorities detained 10 individuals who were actively participating in demonstrations and protests.
The unrest stems from the dissatisfaction of Students of the Employment Permit System (EPS) after the Korean government’s recent announcement, barring those who had previously participated in EPS examinations from applying for new vacancies in the manufacturing sectors.
The policy change has sparked protests, leading to the clash at Balkumari and subsequent arrests by the police.
