CHITWAN: Excitement is building as Bharatpur Metropolitan City gears up to usher in the English New Year 2024, marking the commencement of the highly anticipated Chitwan Visit Year—a dedicated initiative for tourism promotion.

A year-long preparation is culminating as the Chitwan Visit Year is set to be officially declared on January 1 along the scenic banks of the Narayani River.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is slated to inaugurate the Visit Year, according to Dr. Bishwo Subedi, the tourism advisor to Bharatpur Metropolis.

The announcement ceremony is expected to draw a substantial audience, including prominent figures from the federal, provincial, and local levels.

Dr. Subedi shared that arrangements have been meticulously made to gather approximately 50,000 locals to witness this historic event.

The celebration will be a vibrant spectacle, featuring cultural performances by local artists on the Narayani River bank before the official announcement.

As the day unfolds, national artists will take the stage in the evening to further enrich the festivities.

Bharatpur Metropolis has identified seven key tourist destinations within its borders, while an additional 21 destinations have been meticulously promoted to attract visitors.

To ensure the success of Chitwan Visit Year, a comprehensive organizational structure has been put in place.

A main celebration committee of 2,024 members, headed by Mayor Renu Dahal, is leading the charge. Deputy-Mayor Chitra Sen Adhikari is overseeing a 19-member work execution committee, supported by 101 advisory committees and 29 sub-committees.

The financial commitment to this grand initiative is substantial, with a budget exceeding Rs 60 million at the government level. Bharatpur Metropolis has allocated Rs 30 million, Bagmati Province government has pledged Rs 20 million, and the Tourism Board has already contributed seven million rupees, as confirmed by Adhikari.
