Inflation declines to 6.01% in food sector



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Rastra Bank’s recent data release for October-November signals a decline in prices, with an annual point consumer inflation of 5.38 percent over the past four months.

This marks a notable decrease from the 8.08 percent inflation observed in the same month last year.

During the same four-month period, the inflation rate for the food and beverages group stands at 6.01 percent, while the non-food and services group shows a milder inflation of 4.89 percent.

Breaking down the food and beverages group, the annual point consumer price index reveals significant variations: Spicies at 36.46 percent, sugar and sugar products at 14.59 percent, fruits at 14.01 percent, food products at 12.02 percent, and dairy products and eggs at 11.00 percent, showcasing both increases and decreases.

In the specific month under review, the annual point consumer price index for ghee and oil, as well as vegetable sub-groups, witnessed decreases of 14.23 percent and 5.35 percent, respectively, contributing to the overall downward trend in inflation.
