Turning Trash into Treasure: Shikharapur’s remarkable homes from empty glass bottles (In Photos)

KATHMANDU: Discover the astonishing transformation of discarded glass bottles into stunning houses at the Shikharapur Community Learning Center in Dakshinkali Municipality-5.

Embracing an innovative approach to environmental conservation, the Center has constructed three houses using recycled glass bottles.

Domestic tourists flock to witness the ingenuity of these glass bottle homes, which, according to experts, are crafted from a mixture of mud, straw, and sand, providing warmth in winter and a cool refuge in summer.

The construction of these houses, made from non-reusable bottles, serves a dual purpose: not only do they attract curious onlookers, but they also contribute to climate-related initiatives.

Niraj Shrestha, the Director of the Center, envisions a sustainable future where one-story houses can be built using unused bottles, thereby minimizing the environmental impact of discarded materials.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these bottle homes boast high earthquake resistance, adding an extra layer of functionality to their eco-friendly design.

Explore the marriage of innovation and environmental responsibility at Shikharapur’s Community Learning Center, where homes from empty bottles stand as a testament to the potential of turning waste into valuable resources.
