NC General Secy Thapa suggests donating CDF to post-earthquake reconstruction
Gagan Thapa, General Secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC), has proposed redirecting the allocated 8.25 billion rupees from the ‘Constituency Development Fund ‘ (CDF) to support post-earthquake reconstruction.
Following a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Thapa suggested transferring the funds from CDF to the Reconstruction Fund.
Taking to social media on Sunday, General Secretary Thapa shared that he urged the Prime Minister to curtail unnecessary government spending and focus on the earthquake-affected regions.
Uncertainty Surrounds U-19 World Cup hosting amidst suspension of Sri Lanka Cricket
The recent suspension of Sri Lankan cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC) has cast a shadow of uncertainty over the upcoming U-19 Cricket World Cup scheduled for February.
Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket, has issued a cautionary statement, suggesting that hosting rights for the Youth World Cup, slated to take place in Sri Lanka, could be revoked if the suspension is not lifted.
Sixteen teams, including Nepal, are set to participate in this prestigious World Cup. Nepal finds itself in Group ‘D,’ alongside Pakistan, Afghanistan, and New Zealand.
CPC top leaders depart for Colombo wrapping five-day visit to Nepal
Following a five-day visit to Nepal, Wang Junzheng, Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party’s Tibet Autonomous Region, has departed for Colombo.
The Chinese delegation, which arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday, engaged in high-level meetings throughout their stay.
During the visit, Junzheng met with President Ramchandra Paudel, Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli, National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Timilsina, and other dignitaries. Additionally, they toured Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Basantpur.
115th birth anniversary of Mahakabi Devkota observed with various programs
Mahakabi Laxmi Prasad Devkota’s 115th birth anniversary is being commemorated today with various programs.
On this occasion, the Modern Kanya Multiple College organized a literary program in Kathmandu.
Devkota was born in Dillibazar, Kathmandu on Kartik 27, 1966 BS on Laxmi Puja, the third day of Tihar, Hindu’s second biggest festival behind Dashain. This year, Laxmi Puja is observed on the second day due to alternation in dates according to the lunar calendar.
In the program, participating senior litterateurs evaluated Mahakabi as a great talent and humanist poet, highlighting his contribution to the enrichment of Nepali literature.
Jeep accident claims six lives in Nawalparasi
Six people died in a jeep accident that occurred at Devchuli in East Nawalparasi, leaving one person seriously injured.
The accident struck at Gore Ghumti in Devchuli municipality when a jeep with the registration number Lu 1 Ja 3270 met with the accident, Nawalparasi District Police Office said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bedh Bahadur Paudel from Nawalparasi East stated that the accident happened while the jeep was en route to Dalad market on the Mahendra Highway from Majhdanda of Vaudikali Rural Municipality in Nawalparasi.

Ruling coalition in Koshi finalizes sharing of ministries
The ruling coalition parties in Koshi Province have concluded discussions on the allocation of ministries.
Indra Angbo, the leader of the Maoist Center Koshi Parliamentary Party, stated that an agreement was reached among the ruling partners.
Under the agreement, the Nepali Congress (NC) party has four ministries, including the Chief Minister, while the Maoist Center got three ministries.
Additionally, the Janata Samajwadi Party and the Unified Socialist Party got one ministry each.
Sources, meanwhile, claimed that the cabinet would undergo expansion soon after the Tihar festival.
