Construction of second-longest suspension bridge in final stages



BAGLUNG: Another long bridge is being constructed over the Kaligandaki River which already boasts of arguably the world’s longest suspension bridge based on the ‘single span’ technology.

It is said works on the construction of the world’s second-longest bridge of the single span technology have reached the final stage.

The bridge will connect Bangechaur of Baglung district with Adubari of Parbat district.

A 567-meter-long bridge linking these two places was constructed four years back.

The Baglung Municipality has named this bridge ‘Gandaki Swarnim Jhula’.

Now, the second longest bridge is being constructed linking Baglung-4 with Jaljala Rural Muniucipality-8, Parbat.

This bridge is 524 meters long and 185 meters above the Kaligandaki River.

The construction of the bridge will shorten the travel distance between Baglung and Parbat and also facilitate in the transportation of agricultural products between the districts.

Moreover, the bridge will be another tourist attraction. It is said 95 percent of the construction works of this bridge has been completed within one year from its foundation-laying.

The bridge will be constructed at a total cost of Rs 82 million 300 thousand.
