Four die, one still missing due to floods in Siraha



SIRAHA: A total four people including two minors died while another went missing due to landslides and floods triggered by incessant downpour since Thursday.

Five-year-old daughter Priyanka Sah, daughter of Santosh Sah and 11-year-old Ragini Kumari Mahato, daughter of Badri Mahato, drowned in a water-filled ditch in Mirchaiya Municipality-4  in Siraha district, said District Police Office, Siraha.

Mirchaiya Municipality Mayor Shrawan Yadav has provided Rs 20 each to the family of the deceased to perform their final rights.

Similarly, 65-year-old Sobhit Bahadur Katwal, security guard of Sumo Education Academy English Boarding School based at Chandragadha in Nahara Rural Municipality-3, died after he fell into a water-filled ditch, according to District Police Office, Siraha.

Likewise, a woman was found dead in water near the barrage of the Kamala River at Paterwa in Siraha Municipality-17. The dead body of the woman, who appeared in her early 30s, was covered in sand.

A 15-year-old Bali Sah went missing in the floods that occurred in Siraha Municipality-15. Police said they are searching for her.

A total of 354 houses were completely damaged while 2,538 houses sustained partial damages in various parts of Siraha district due to floods, said District Police Office, Siraha.
