Climate Change has emerged as a global concern: PM Dahal

POKHARA: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ has emphasized that climate change, a pressing global issue, holds specific and severe implications for the South Asian mountain range.

During his participation in the Climate Change Dialogue event organized by the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in Mustang on Wednesday, the PM underscored, “Climate change is no longer confined to national boundaries; it has already become a global concern.”

He further cautioned that without timely and concerted efforts by the international community to mitigate climate change, the consequences would become increasingly severe and challenging.

Prime Minister Dahal noted that Nepal had raised climate change issues and their impact on the country at the recent United Nations General Assembly. He also revealed his intention to represent Nepal at the 28th World Climate Summit scheduled for next month, where he will actively advocate for these concerns.

The PM disclosed that the United Nations Secretary-General plans to visit Nepal to assess the complexities and risks associated with climate change in the country. He expressed his commitment to seek international support to reduce losses and the risks associated with climate change in the mountainous regions, particularly focusing on Mustang. As a significant step in this direction, he announced an allocation of Rs 500 million from donor agencies to address climate-related issues in Nepal, with specific emphasis on Mustang.

“Efforts are already in progress to secure foreign assistance for the reconstruction of the Kagbeni area, which was severely damaged by the flood on August 13,” he stated. He emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to preventing potential losses resulting from climate change in Mustang.

Today, Prime Minister Dahal conducted an aerial inspection of the flood-affected areas in Kagbeni, Muktinath, and Lomanthang in Upper Mustang, following his visit to the region.
