88.5 percent rainfall this monsoon



KATHMANDU: An average of 88.5 percent rainfall was recorded this monsoon in the country, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

While the average rainfall during monsoon is 1,472 millimeters in Nepal, this year it was 1,303 millimeters, shared Department’s meteorologist Sudarshan Humagain. He shared that there was less rainfall during the monsoon.

Specifically, the rainfall recorded in Kathmandu was 1,283 millimeters which is 109 percent more than the average rainfall, he shared.

Although less rainfall was predicted in the Jumla district this year, the district received 210.7 millimeters of rain, which is 133.5 percent more than the average rain.

Similarly, in Okhaldhunga district, 1,492.1 millimeters of rain was recorded which is 107 per cent more than the average.

This year, Janakpur received almost half of the rainfall than the average rainfall recorded in the district. Altogether 637.1 millimeters of rain was measured this monsoon while the average rainfall of Janakpur is 1,195.8 millimeters.
