Two including a Nepali, die while climbing Everest from Tibetan route



KATHMANDU: An American and a Nepali mountaineer who went to climb Mount Everest from the Tibetan route have died in an avalanche.

China’s official news agency Xinhua reported that American mountaineer Anna Gutu and Nepali guide Mingmar Sherpa died in an avalanche in the Tibetan mountain Shishapangma.

Xinhua mentioned that they died after falling in two avalanches that occurred at an altitude of 7,600 and 7,000 meters on Saturday.

Similarly, another American mountaineer Gina Marie, and a Nepali guide Tenzen Sherpa are reported missing.

Shishapangma at an altitude of around 8000 meters is considered one of the easiest mountains. Mountaineers also call it as ‘eight thousander’.

Due to snowfall, all climbing on that route has been suspended.
